How to Spot a Get-Rich-Quick Scheme Before It Costs You

How to spot a get-rich-quick scheme

Every few years a new platform promises extraordinary returns, and thousands of hardworking people line up to join. Many lose their money. Intelligence is not the problem. Pressure, hope and a lack of structured investment education are.

Warning signs to watch for

  • Guaranteed high returns. Real investing carries risk. Anyone guaranteeing big monthly returns is selling a story.
  • Returns that depend on new members. If the payouts come from recruiting others, the structure cannot last.
  • Pressure to decide fast. Real opportunities survive a week of questions.
  • Vague explanations. If nobody can explain exactly how the money is made, do not give them yours.
  • Unregistered or unclear operators. Check who is behind it and whether they are properly regulated.

A simple test

Ask three questions: Where exactly does the return come from? What happens if it fails? Can I afford to lose all of this? If any answer is unclear, the answer is no.

Investing without knowledge is gambling. Strategy is everything.

Education is your best protection. Learn the basics of how assets work, and the next scheme will look exactly like what it is. This article is education only and not financial advice.

Education only. Nothing here is personalised financial, tax or legal advice. Investing involves risk, including loss of capital. Do your own research and speak to a licensed adviser before you act.
